My name is Carol. I tutor Chemistry, Biology, and Physical Science. I also create classes for homeschoolers and other curious kids and give support and structure to students taking online science courses.
I earned my B.A. in Physical Anthropology at U.C. Berkeley. With a teaching credential in Secondary Science Education through the State of California, I taught high school and middle school for thirteen years. I love teaching and learning about the natural world. I am continually delighted by teenagers.
My favorite part of tutoring is how emotionally transformative it can be. The thing I hear most often from students after they begin tutoring is, “I wish I had started this months ago.” It’s never too late, but why not start now? Why spend weeks or months feeling bad about the class and yourself? I think students expect tutoring to expand their list of things to do, but it actually reduces it. Know what else it reduces? Wasted time, feelings of failure, and dread. Be sure to read the testimonials below for more information on that. I encourage students to try a few sessions with no commitment to continue. Give it a try. Then you’ll know.
I currently work remotely via Zoom using screen sharing and supplemental video so I can talk with the student, run online simulations, and write out diagrams and calculations, making it as similar as possible to an in person experience.

“She saved me!”
“I’m so thankful for you and your empowerment of my daughter.”
“Carol has been my daughter's tutor for Chemistry at the high school level. For us, she has filled a real gap in her educational needs for learning the material. Carol is kind yet disciplined and so knowledgeable. She and my daughter developed a real connection to where she can rely on Carol to educate her and bring her confidence up to do well in class. Carol is also reasonable as schedules get busy and as a busy mom I appreciated that flexibility. I am so thankful she is here on the island as we would travel to see her if necessary.”
“Before my daughter came to see Carol she hated the class and herself. Now she loves both.
